Investigation of Compression and Hardness for UHMWPE Bio-composites as Internal Bone Plate Fixation

چکیده

Bone plates are essential for bone fracture healing because they modify the biomechanical microenvironment at site to provide necessary mechanical fixation fragments. This paper addresses use of composite in long-bone fractures such as transverse femur. However, stress shielding due metal can be reduced by designing implants with Bio-composites that involve Ultra high molecular polyethylene reinforced (UHMWPE) Nano hydroxyapatite (n-HA) and titanium dioxide (n-TiO2) particles different weight fraction (0,1.5,2.5,3.5and 4. 5%) 5% carbon Kevlar fibers. FRIT spectrum was used identify incorporation between matrix particles, shifting main peaks confirmed good cross-linking within structure. The specimens thus prepared were subjected a compression test, hardness density. results indicated UHMWPE+4.5%n-HA+CF hybrid biocomposite has highest compressive strength properties. In contrast, UHMWPE+4.5%TiO2+CF density, which increased increasing percentages Nano-particles, where 53 MPa, property ranges 65.6 shore D, density 1.09 (g/cm3). According current study's findings, it is possible create bio-composites internal device improved performance placing fiber reinforcements.

Is Bone Grafting necessary following open reduction and internal fixation of supracondylar/intercondylar femur fracture with locking compression plate?

The common problems seen in distal femoral fractures are communition, articular surface involvement, fractures in multiple planes and bone loss in compound fractures. They present a challenge to the surgeon to achieve stable fixation and union. With different methods of internal fixation available, the common complications encountered with distal femoral fractures are malunion, varus collapse, ...

Internal fixation of fractures of both bones forearm: Comparison of locked compression and limited contact dynamic compression plate

BACKGROUND The locking compression plate (LCP) with combination holes is a newer device in fracture fixation. We undertook a study comparing the LCP with limited contact dynamic compression plate (LC-DCP) in the treatment of diaphyseal fractures of both bones of the forearm. MATERIALS AND METHODS This is a prospective comparative study, 36 patients (18 in each group) with fractures of both th...

A Pitfall in Fixation of Distal Humeral Fractures with Pre-Contoured Locking Compression Plate

Anatomically precontoured locking plates are intended to facilitate the fixation of articular fractures and particularly those associated with osteoporosis. Fractures of the distal humerus are relatively uncommon injuries where operative intervention can be exceptionally challenging. The distal humeral trochlea provides a very narrow anatomical window through which to pass a fixed-angle locking...

Atrophic nonunion of the clavicle: treatment by compression plate, lag-screw fixation and bone graft.

We describe a new surgical treatment of atrophic nonunion of the clavicle. The nonunion is excised by cuts at 45 degrees to the long axis and repair uses 3.5 mm pelvic reconstruction or dynamic compression plates, with a lag screw to provide interfragmentary compression. The site is grafted with cancellous bone. We have been successful in all seven patients, with early return to normal function...

Plate fixation of clavicle fractures: a comparative study between Reconstruction Plate and Dynamic Compression Plate.

This study aimed at comparing the results of clavicular fracture fixation with AO Reconstruction (Recon) plate and Dynamic Compression Plate (DCP). The case notes of 39 patients with 40 acute and chronic clavicular fractures were retrospectively reviewed. The indications for fixation for acute cases comprised open fractures, the presence of sufficient skin tenting to risk skin integrity, neurov...
